On "Kabushiki Kaisha" and the "Secret Master-Disciple Transmission"

Pengzu Institute Japan · Official Statement

I. Introduction

Pengzu Institute Japan (Kabushiki Kaisha) was established in Tokyo in 2025. A question we are often asked is: if the teachings are "secretly transmitted," why adopt a corporate form? The answer is simple: the corporation is the shell; the master-disciple bond is the core.

II. The Corporation as Shell

Under Japan's current legal and social environment, any long-term cultural activity directed at the public requires a legitimate legal entity — to lease venues, issue public notices, sign contracts, and bear social responsibility. The Kabushiki Kaisha is precisely the "public face" through which we interface with Japanese society.

III. The Master-Disciple Bond as Core

Yet what the true Pengzu–Xu Fu lineage transmits is the practical cultivation lineage of China's millennia-old "dual cultivation of body and mind." From Pengzu's longevity and physical cultivation in the Shang Dynasty, to Xu Fu's eastward voyage to spread the Dao in the Qin Dynasty, to the present-day reestablishment of the lineage — the core principle has always been: "oral transmission from heart to heart, no written texts, no transmission without formal discipleship."

IV. Alignment with Japanese Traditional Schools

Our approach is therefore no different from that of Japan's many traditional schools — such as the iemoto system of kenjutsu, jujutsu, chado (tea ceremony), and kodo (incense ceremony). Public lectures and cultural briefings are open to all, introducing Pengzu wellness culture and the classical Chinese wisdom found in the Ishinpo. However, the methods truly pertaining to internal alchemy, Yin-Yang harmony, and the critical thresholds of cultivation are strictly reserved for inner-circle disciples, transmitted only after the ancient rite of burning a written vow.

V. Conclusion

We refuse to reduce a thousand-year lineage into "a commodity with a price tag," nor do we lightly transmit to those who lack sincerity or have not mastered proper conduct. The corporation exists so that, on Japanese soil, we may — in a manner consistent with proper norms — safeguard a Chinese path of self-cultivation that is by nature secret, rather than dilute it into a wellness course that anyone can purchase.
